The defaults are an editable planning example, not a category or product quote. Replace the referral rate, fulfillment fee and other amounts with Amazon's Revenue Calculator or your Seller Central fee preview for the exact ASIN and sale period.

Amazon FBA profit formula

The estimate separates Amazon charges from the costs you control. That makes it easier to replace one fee without hiding the effect inside a single percentage.

Order revenueItem price + shipping charged

Total entered costsAmazon fees + product and operating costs

Per-unit profitOrder revenue − total entered costs

Profit margin divides profit by order revenue. Return on total entered costs divides profit by every fee and cost included in this estimate. The target-price solver repeatedly applies the same fee rules until it reaches the margin you selected.

Start with Amazon's estimate for the exact ASIN

FBA fulfillment fees depend on product type, size tier and shipping weight. Referral fees depend on category, while storage and other charges depend on inventory and account circumstances. Use Amazon's Revenue Calculator or Seller Central fee preview to obtain the current product-specific amounts, then enter those values here to test product cost, advertising, returns and target-price scenarios.

Amazon explains its product estimate and fulfillment comparison tools on the official Estimate fees and costs page. Its US pricing page lists selling plans and category referral fees.

The default 15% referral rate, $0.30 minimum and $4.50 fulfillment amount are only a planning example. Do not treat them as a quote for your category, size tier or ASIN.

Apply the fulfillment surcharge to the fulfillment fee

Amazon states that a 3.5% fuel and logistics-related surcharge applies to US FBA fulfillment fees beginning April 17, 2026. It also says holiday peak fulfillment fees apply from October 15, 2026 through January 14, 2027, with the surcharge applied to those rates. The calculator therefore keeps the base fulfillment amount and surcharge rate separate.

Include more than the headline FBA fee

  • Product and inbound cost: include the unit purchase or manufacturing cost and allocated freight into Amazon's network.
  • Prep and labeling: include materials, labor and service charges paid per sellable unit.
  • Advertising: enter the expected advertising cost as a percentage of order revenue; use actual campaign data when available.
  • Storage: allocate expected storage cost to a sold unit rather than assuming it is zero.
  • Returns allowance: use a realistic per-unit average when returns, unsellable inventory or processing costs are material.
  • Other Amazon fees: add applicable closing, aged-inventory, removal or account-specific charges instead of forcing them into the referral rate.

Amazon notes that its fee preview excludes some optional and less-common charges, including monthly subscription, aged-inventory, removal and return-processing fees. That is why this calculator provides separate editable fields rather than claiming one universal FBA rate.

A $35 item with editable example costs

The default scenario uses a $35 selling price, 15% referral rate, $4.50 fulfillment fee, 3.5% fulfillment surcharge, 8% advertising cost and $0.40 storage allocation. Product, inbound, prep and returns costs total $12.60.
